Title: Best 345mm Discs & Pads S3/R32 fitment
Post by: PM30S on July 07, 2015, 10:34:42 am
Hi I have a stage 2+ edition 30 which currently has S3 front brakes 345mm.
I want to replace the discs and pads.
What are people's suggestions to use for fast road fitment.
Currently has DS2500 pads.
Many thanks :happy2:

Not sure what is 'best' but the best I have experienced, which is my current setup up is Brembo TTS discs and Mintex M1144 pads. Quite clean in regards dust but they do squeal.

I'd recommend MTEC TTS discs as theyre good quality and well priced, also come in a variety of types as well.

Pads wise any decent Pagids/ Mintex or Brembo's will be fine.

If I'm right, the TTS disc is 340mm, same thickness but about 1 to 2kg lighter per disc (which strangely, is very noticeable at the steering wheel)?

You are correct, I had 340mm and 345mm MTEC discs at the same time and the difference was 750g but bare in mind the 340's were brand new and the 345's had done about 7,000 miles with my lead feet so had probably lost a good few grams of material.

So would the TTS discs not fit being 5mm smaller????

It's 5mm in diameter smaller, which is 2.5mm per side (effectively). Because the stud pattern and thickness of the disc is the same it doesn't effect it being used with R32/Golf R/Cupra/S3 front brakes. :happy2:

The best are the Racing Brake 2 piece rotors, they are 7.8 Kgs compared to 12 Kgs stock:

You can get Brembo versions of those too, but but the time I pay out for those and some decent pads for my stock Golf R brakes, I may as well go all out and get a lightweight 4/piston caliper set up instead!

Anyway, if I were to replace my front discs and pads for some decent versions in place of OE parts...

Pads: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/brake-pads/car/volkswagen/golf-mk6-r/2012/2-0-turbo/brembo-hp-sport-performance-pads-front-pad-set-ate-caliper-2

Discs: http://www.mtecbrakes.com/brake-discs/audi/tt-coupe-2006/tt-2-5t-fsi-rs-quattro-07-09.html
(I'd get the grooved versions to help keep the pasts cleanest.)

Anyone disagree with the choice of brake pads? I know they're not very well liked on here, but there's a lot of good thoughts on the EBC red stuff pads since they changed the compound a few years ago.

Also consider some stainless steal lines. Perhaps more so than expensive TTS discs: http://www.brake-lines.co.uk/hel-brake-lines-for-volkswagen-golf-mk5-3.2-r32-4-motion-from-1k-4-000-001-2005-2007.html
(I assume the mk5 R32 will be exactly the same as the mk6 Golf R/S3?)

Many thanks I'll go for the uprated discs and pads you have attached.
Full brake fluid change.
My current setup makes the steering wheel wobble at hard braking from say 80mph the prior owner must of heated the brakes up to much. D1ck
