So here it is, my very first Volkswagen. Ive been a bit of a Ford man for the last 10 years with a slight detour into the Jap scrap with Civic Type R GT which I hated.... I got bored of waiting for Vtec to kick in!
That hatred resulted in me buying the Edition 30. 2 weeks into ownership and I love it, hands down the best car ive ever bought!! Needs a few little bits tidying up but over time it will all get done with a few modifications along the way.
Anyway... Pictures!

Very nice mate!
They do drive well though from my short experience with mine seem to have quite a few niggles.
Out of interest what's the mileage?
-
very nice, best colour too :happy2:

This one does have a coulple of small issues, one of the bolts that holds the air con pipes into the condenser has snapped so I need to get that sorted. The DSG also had a bit of a moment the other day but a friend of mine who is a VW technician assures me a service will cure most issues... so fingers crossed!
Mileage is 77k, average for its age.

Did you get the prnds lights flashing?
Lovely car btw! Wish I waited for a red one sometimes
-
I did yeah, it flashed up. I stopped the car. Locked/unlocked and all was well in the world again.
The fault code was 19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement
-
Very nice, welcome along!

Yeah my DSG did too well couple of times now when going from reverse to park a couple of times it had a paddy.

Has the car had any sort of DSG service ??
It had its last DSG service at 26k so its overdue its next one.
A friend of mine is a VW technician and he's had a look at the car and suspects my DSG fault might be the fact it needs a new mechatronic unit or a simple software update and service.
Being as the car has 3 months warranty from the dealer I bought it off its going into my local VW garage on Thursday for a full diagnosis and if there is anything major that needs fixing i'l be making the most of that warranty.
-
Handy to know, its real pain because its such a great car and I just really don't need the hassle of having to get this sorted through the dealer. Just want to enjoy owning and driving it!
-
Car is booked in for a full diagnostic at VW leicester, hoping nothing will show up but i'l get a full report of any defects to show the warranty company and all being well i'l be on my way to getting the car sorted.
Never had any experience with VW aftersales care so its another venture into the unknown for me.

Looks great in red, good choice!
You wont regret buying VW :innocent: :happy2:

You reckon?? My first 4 weeks of ownership have been less than smooth
Car was in at VW Leicester yesterday for diagnosis on its gearbox issue and it was confirmed it needs a new mechatronic unit, its currently still with the dealer and they are handling the warranty claim on my behalf which is handy. Just hoping it all goes through smoothly and work is carried out. I sure as hell dont want to get stuck with the £2500 cost for the new unit!!
-
Well it went pretty badly, Warranty wise refused the claim, there reason..
1) Mechatronic Unit
However we are of the opinion as your repairer has stated that the vehicle is slightly jurking in gear. that the requested parts
have not suffered a sudden and unexpected mechanical or electrical breakdown as defined in your warranty booklet but is
suffering from wear and tear. Unfortunately parts which have not suffered a sudden failure as defined and parts which are
suffering from wear and tear within the first 30 days or 1000 miles are specifically excluded.
P****d off is not the word. Ive spoken to the dealer I bought it from and they are going to get in touch with Warranty wise to try and find out whats going on. Its of Volkswagens opinion that the unit has failed and needs replacing so they are also going to dispute with warranty wise.... All in all yesterday was a pretty crap day.
Hoping I can get it sorted, I know recon units are available so that might well be my next step.
vehicle is on 77k, FSH, and DSG service is due. Tempted to just have that done and see if that eases the problem at all. The car drives fine, its just a bit jurky sometimes when pulling away or slowing down when changing into first, eg coming up to a junction/traffic lights.
-
Warranty Wise are reviewing the claim today after VW explained that the mechatronic unit is not a wear and tear item. Hopefully they will authorise the work and all will be well with the world again.
DSG service is the first job on the list once I get the car back
-
If the mechatronics is replaced they'll have to exchange the oil as well, so if done properly it'll get serviced.

So I thought i'd update this a bit... After spending the last few months of trying to get the car sorted through the courts and using solicitors to try and get some sort of result on getting the car repaired it all came to nothing.
The owner of the dealership seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth and being a sole trader there is no records of the company with companies house, the long and the short of it is that im now left to fix the car.
So with that now decided and me spending the last week or so trying to decide the best course of action... fix and keep or fix and sell, I've decided to fix and keep. I loved the car for the shot period of time that I actually got to drive it for so it seems stupid to buy another that could have the same or more faults, this way I know the car is sorted and done right.... Just need to free up some drive way space and my axle stands first but sorting my Puma track car out!!
A parts order has gone in and I'm going to be spend the next 4 or 5 weeks getting the car fixed and doing a few little extra jobs along the way. Ive already ordered a few service items;
Engine Oil
Oil Filter
DSG Oil
DSG Filter
O Rings / Sump Bungs / Gearbox Bung
Cabin Filter
Fuel Filter
Also bought my first actual mods for the car as well, rear wiper delete and the Polo aerial. Plenty more parts and pictures to come!

Time for an update....
I actually managed to get a start on the car last weekend. The first job was obviously to get the car somewhere dry and warm where I could work on it, thankfully I have the worlds best father in law and he kindly lent me the use of his garage.
So the car is in, up on axle stands and the strip down could begin.... in the mean time my father in law has borrowed my BBS's wheels while he has his Edition 35 wheels done, somehow he has managed to batter a beautiful set of 19" Glendales!! (will post a picture of them when they've been done)
I've pretty much got a boot and back seat full of parts to fit/change on the car. My thinking is if I do it right now then I know it will be right for years to come... a few little ad-hoc additions to do as well
In its new home for the next few weeks.

I started to tear down the car, whole front end off as the air con rad had a bolt sheered into that I needed to get out so...

And this is how it ended up by the time I was done.

I was genuinely surprised at how easy the car came apart, it took me only a couple of hours to get the front end off..... One observation though, the clips for the wiring harness are a PITA to get apart!!
I also removed all 4 calipers and carriers as the paint was starting to look a bit tired, there all currently sat in a box under my desk and i'l given them a full strip down a rebuild over the next few days.
After spending 2 and half days at the NEC the other weekend at the Autosport International show I managed to get chatting with the Bilsteins guys and they sorted me out a really good deal on a full set of B8 dampers.

This weekends job is to get the mechatronic unit out the gearbox and get that sent away for repair... which me luck!
