My early mk5 gti rear boot badge has white worm. I have a new whole unit to replace it with however I noticed the one with white worm has a soft latch whilst the replacement is an aggressive spring type. Can I somehow remove the badge handle and put it in the old unit so I can retain the soft latching??

It has been covered already in this forum a couple of times at least. Use search.

All I find is people removing the actual badge and not the handle itself.

Keep searching.
People just replace the VW badge, they keep the handle. I'm not sure if it will look perfect like that.

Most of these are about removing the badge from the handle. Can I not remove the whole handle unit and refit into my other boot handle assembly. Someone mentioned they had but not expanded.
