Title: ipod connection lead
Post by: njdudsbury on December 14, 2009, 10:06:57 pm
Hi all
I am thinking of putting a Ipod connection in my MK5 GTI. It has the standard single cd unit in it.
I want a lead to connect to an Ipod in the glove box. What I want is some control over the ipod through the head unit (ie up and down tracks and so on)
Anybody got any experinces and any advice you could share?
Cheers

Don't buy a Dension or a VW iPod kit, my one lasted about 5 months.

Get a Connects2 one if possible, they're more robust.  They'll control the iPod via the playlist function but won't show track names.

If you have a changer, it becomes redundant so what you can do is swap it with an VW armrest iPod "shelf" from eBay and sell the changer to make most of your money back.  It takes 5 minutes to install too, no stereo removal required.

I got the internals of the ipod shelf from Maxitrol when I was up there on Saturday morning...He had it laying about so let me have it :happy2:

Any way I butchered it about and cut a small hole just enough for the bottom of the carrier to fit in and re-soldered it all together and came up with this.

BTW, Should be getting my hghline fitted on Saturday. Any chance you could let me know what I would require to enable full functionality of the DIS (i.e. convenience menu etc) and typical prices ?

Take care matey  :happy2:

Andrew you already have the highline central electrics so your menu will have the light and sight?? all you will need is the highline convenience which is part number 1K0 959 433AR or CB or CR any of them will do :happy2: from the dealer they are £160 but I managed to pick mine off of ebay for £35 plus £20 postage

With the above module you'll just have to have the keys coded to the central locking.

Let me know how the highline fitting goes bud,

Cheers
