Title: Castrol Edge Titanium FST 0w30
Post by: Nico2904 on July 18, 2015, 02:51:24 pm
Hi

I'm currently using Castrol Edge FST 5w30 oil, which VW recommends for the TFSI and FSI engines.
I see Castrol has come up with this Titanium FST 0w30 oil, which seems to be their "top of the range" oil. But is it OK to use in my
2.0 TFSI engine (BWA) stage 2?

Better use Millers Oils Nanodrive 5w40 for what the experts advise here. It resists better higher temperatures and has better lubricant power.

Thanks for input  :happy2:
But do anyone know, if I'll be OK using the new Castrol TI?

If you mean will it work in your engine... Yes it will, same a cooking oil will

Joking aside, it's a different grade, so is thinner at ambient temps, so will likely burn slightly more oil, might not provide adequate cold start protection as its too thin, etc   R-Tek who def know what they are talking about recommend a 5w40, this will stay slightly thicker at hotter temps, which is useful on a tuned engine. I wouldn't go down a grade to 0w30. If you don't go to 5w40, stick to 5w30.

The 0w30 oil is just thinner when cold (cold start). Beside that it has the same viscocity. The real question is about the VW spec aprovals

This is what Castrol reccomends: http://oilselector.castrol.com/c/dk/dan/recommendation/068f761e02f63e86eae57514a22856a6/Volkswagen-(VW)/Golf-V-1K-(2003-2009)/Golf-V-2-0-TFSI-GTI-(147-kW)-(2004-2009)

Don't know where you are going with this mate.

VW Recomend 5w30, that's the spec from them.

R-Tek Recomend something slightly thicker, this isn't to VW spec but based in their vast experience with these engines that's their shout. 5w 40

You want to go a grade thinner (when cold and hot) than R-Tek recommend and one thinner when cold than VW recomend. Based on that rational I would say you are going in the wrong direction, esp on a tuned car.
