Title: How to remove air con controls

Bought some new controls for my air con (not the climate control style) and I'm trying to get the old ones out. I've got some pliers and wrapped them up but they don't seem to be moving so I don't want to try too hard incase something breaks. Is this definitely the way to do it?

Just to note it's only the dials I need out not the whole unit

Anyone help on this I know some of yous have done it just can't remember who!
