In one of my earlier threads on here I mentioned that I needed to replace my suspension, but could not as a gearbox issue came up, so now I have funds to replace the suspension.
I am in a 2, 8, 4 and 6 on making a decision - Do I opt for OE springs and dampers or plump up the extra £££ for the Bilstein B12 kit?
(I will also get the top mounts replaced along with 4WA).
I read on here that with the B12's the ride is far improved and the car is nowhere near as crashy. However, the car is a daily driver and my commute uses some nice B roads, so the extra compliance would be nice, great even, but i am just unsure. With me not being able to decide fully, should I just opt for the OE parts?

Have I answered my own question? I know no one is going to say set kit xyz, but some for's and against would be helpful.
-
Having had the B12 kit installed after careful consideration and not being disappointed (if it were not meeting expectation I would say so) I would say this:
If you have the £'s buy it.
What's the difference in cost between OE & B12?
I fear if it's £100/150 you'd regret it every time you drove it for the sake of a relatively small sum. :happy2:

Go for a proper kit. Bilstein dampers (from a 5mile drive) seem to be fantastic
-
Its £130 difference between OE and B12 kit. I originally had no plans to modify the GTi, but since the VAG specialist I use quoted me for OE, Bilstein B8 with OE springs and B12 kit and the price being rather tempting.....
-
Up grade them
-
It's easy then...B12. And be quick about it! :P
-
Can you still get the B12 Kit?
I am sure I read it was been discontinued.
I like the idea of the B12 kit myself, B8 Dampers with the Eibach springs. I would go for the Pro springs which I think lower the car less than the Sportline spings?
-
Yeah I think you can :happy2:

Yeh kit is still available :happy2: :happy2:

My Weitec Hicon GTs recently died and I was thinking of going for some B12s to replace them as I didn't really need the adjustability.
However I came across this thread with some very reasonably priced B14s which are cheaper than B12s:

I'd say the handling is unchanged compared with the Weitec Hicon GTs but the ride is much better. In all I would definitely recommend them.

B12 sportline all the way, I did over 40k on mine in a year and still went felt comfortable and towed easily.
Well worth the ££££
