Title: window wipers going crazy
Post by: graham-gti on August 04, 2015, 04:09:10 pm
hey guys,

Haven't used my wipers much due to the nice weather but i noticed the other day that when i put my wipers onto intermitent wipe that they do what they like. Sometimes they will wipe as they should but then they will randomly go really fast then off then quick again. No matter what i do with the speed switch on the top they still do what they like.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance  Graham   :driver:

Put wipers onto intermittent / auto, spray water on the windscreen by the light/water sensor and if the wipers move, you have auto ones!

I think you can replace the auto relay with a regular one for about £50 from VW.  I did that on my MK4 as the auto wiping was rubbish.

What that means is when you have the stalk position 1, the adjuster varies the wipe delay instead of the auto wipe sensitivity.  Much better!

Make sure the windscreen above the sensor is clean. Other than that, I agree, the auto wipers aren't great.

If you pull the plug out of the sensor in front the mirror, it goes back to a normal timed wipe in intermittent!

You get a message in VCDS but I can live with that to get rid of the manic wipers  :happy2:
