Title: gateway fault or? radio related
Post by: olethalb on August 07, 2015, 09:37:40 am
Ok so i have a small problem which has now been 100% confirmed

to cut a long story short my car has full mk5 gti loom / modules basically everything electrical is mk5 gti

after i carried out conversion i fitted rcd300 headunit: this unit did not come on with ignition

then picked up rcd 310 (just for silver buttons ) : this unit did not come on with ignition and randomly went into safe mode every other week

i then fitted an ebay rubbish do everything badly unit : this unit did not store some funtions (memory) but did wake up with ignition on

now the rcd300 and 310 were fitted for a short amount of time and i put it down to gateway coding, then the ebay unit i put down to just being a pile of steaming turd

BUT i have now fitted an MFD2 that the gti originally came with so gateway coding should be ok, but still does not wake up with ignition and flicks through safe on start up, i also have random radio comms fault codes and infotainment? errors

is this a duff gateway or something else? i've bought a replacement gateway of the same part number - 1K0 907 530 F - i don't want to tear the dash down if it's possible something else

any help appreciated  :happy2:

The gateway will need correct coding, and I would have gotten a newer revision (L or Q, for example).

After the gateway is sorted if it still continues with problems I'd check the looms. Something shouldn't be right.

the gateway is coded as factory with mfd2 bud

the replacement was £12 so worth a punt  :signLOL:

The gateway to be correctly coded for a MFD2 or even a RNS-510 just needs the Navigation module added as the Analog Radio should already be added in all gateways. Not much into it, really.

sorry i meant the stereo coding is factory (came with mfd2) and is now again fitted with mfd2 so should be fine?

I've still got my old gateway that ran fine with the mfd2. Worth a shot?

It won't be the radio. It ran flawlessly when in my gti

I understood. The gateway should be correctly coded for the MFD2, yes. You just need to make sure it's correctly coded for the rest of your Touran's components and that you have no errors.

For your symptoms I find it hard just to be an issue with the gateway but I'm not electrician...

everything is mk5 bud, every sensor / module / loom etc etc

i've got one on the way from ebay rich, i know it's not the stereo as all 4 have acted oddly, i don't know if it all worked properly in the golf before i stripped it down

it's just a right git getting at the gateway particularly if it could be something else silly  :happy2:

You might have a damaged loom or a poor connection somewhere related to the radio. Even with the gateway not correctly coded the radio turns on/off with ignition.

Sounds like a live/switched problem. Might be worth getting the tester out.

I'd check the canbus coding unless someone has messed with the loom.

loom all looks good condition and un tampered with

the long coding has boxes ticked for analog and nav in the gateway, thats as much as i've looked at so far

The radio not powering with ignition has nothing to do with gateway coding related to the radio. That I know for sure because I had my first RNS-510 running well with Navigation not activated in the gateway installation list for a couple of months. It was corrected later but I didn't notice any difference in the HU work.

For what I understood you only get sporadic errors related with the radio/infotainment, right?

i always get infotainment code and sometimes intermittant radio comms code

I think you might have a bad connection to the gateway somewhere in the loom or connectors, and that is stopping the gateway to communicate properly with the radio, giving the other 2 errors.

That would explain the radio not powering up correctly. The aftermarket radio might not need a good communication with the gateway to power up normally.

Ok just read on another forum about 'the fuse mod' to enable fitting later stereos without battery drain but stereo loses memory

I remembered seeing this in the golf and was there when previous owner bought the car (mfd2 fitted)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FB29803CC-CEAD-4E38-98CF-296733E287EC_zpscc5xxjyr.jpg&hash=fc80b53700af4d10244e8ac6f6c3629195baa152)

I've removed the add on and popped the fuse in the slot closest the bonnet so i'll see what happens at 4pm when i leave to go home

Your fuse goes in the other slot ! It's slot 19 as far as I can remember , I was running this mod for a week while waiting on a new canbus gateway

Yep all sorted, fuse is in correct place or stereo doesn't work at all, i think F19 yes :)
