Title: Helios fitment / tyre size
Post by: shaunnorris7 on August 08, 2015, 07:50:52 pm
Recently picked up some genuine helios with 235/35/19 tyres on. Upon test fitment they look the bollocks but scrape slightly. Are these the right sized tyres for them?

They are 19x8.5j et45

Cheers

The tyres are correct for those wheels but you need to roll your fenders to fit them.

You'll need 225's to make them fit maybe even 215's. Depends how low you are.

Exactly this

If it's only rubbing a little bit try the screw mod if you have already done that then change down to a 225/35

1. There is nothing really there to roll. Only the soft (ish) inner arch lining.

2. It's lowered on Eibach springs so no more than 40mm.

3. It's not doing it all the time but only when going over bumps.

4. What's the screw mod?

5. Tyres are almost new so don't want to change them if I can help it.

6. Thanks for your help ☺

Depends on bump really. Mainly rears but fronts have done too.

Yeah, the rears are factory rolled so unless you want to flare them you'll need to change the tyres. The screw mod is removing the screw from the front arch located at about 1 o'clock (I think) there's a few threads on here so search for one of those for more detail. 235's are nealy always too big for the MK5 if you're lowered.

screw mod is removing a screw in the front wheel arch that holds the arch liner in place

you basically remove the screw and put the plastic arch liner tab behind the metal tab from the wing and bend it back into place to hold it there.

this gives you more clearance when changing wheels or lowering as the screw is the first thing the tyre rubs on

if the rears are still rubbing and you don't want to change the tyres then just add a touch of negative camber and it'll give you clearance and stop the rubbing

Just seen the pics in your build thread and your car looks fantastic  :happy2:

I've driven to work yesterday and today (60 mile round trip) and not rubbed once!

Been looking on arch enemy's website and considering getting some arch work done as I'd prefer to keep the 235's.

What do people think to this idea?

225's look better imo, running them on my helios, wouldn't go modding arches for the sake of tyres, if you ever change the wheels then the arch mods may be pointless

Very true. Hadn't thought of it like that. Feck it, when they get refurbed over winter I'll get some 225's on!

Cheers

The wheels should be 8j FYI so 225 shouldnt be a problem. i ran 225 on a 8.5 et48 and it didnt rub, i put rs3 hubs on mine and this pushed them out another 10mm and it rubbed like hell, removed the screw and it didnt make a noise! i have 225 on my new wheels that are 8j and they look spot on  :happy2:
