Post by: clemo on August 11, 2015, 10:13:39 am
Hi  Has anyone tried the PCV delete . does it work or would it be better to just buy a new stock one ??

Thanks

Mixed reviews from what I read on the forum, Never tried it myself so can't give my own experiences but I have never had any issues fitting the latest revision stock items.

R-tech delete kit seems to be the newest kit available that avoids all oil from returning to the inlet/turbo. I bought a Forge catch can which was more expensive and now I don't know if I'm doing the right thing to fit it or if I should just sell it new.

Yer I'm not sure what to do .. I might check out the R tech one . Don't like the idea of a catch can... I just need to know it works and won't hinder performance

The R-tech kit won't hinder performance and won't let carbon build up in your engine. The only drawback I've heard/consider might be an oily smell when idling in traffic, for example, since it vents to the atmosphere.

My Forge catch can is the newest version, not sure if that's enough to correct its drawbacks...

Interesting , im going to have a read up on it , so basically  with this delete kit you leave the hose on to the back of the block and cap off the other  i think .. i need to investigate more on this before i decide but thanks for your help ....

I assume you could add some type of filter to the end hose that vents to the atmosphere ????

Might help to reduce the smell ?????

Not sure if that's an issue with all cars where the kit was installed but seems logical that the gases vented to the atmosphere have an oily smell. Your solution might work.

Maybe someone from R-tech or someone who has that kit installed could give us more feedback from the product.

A filter may help reduce the smell slightly !  :innocent:

New location to run the atmospheric pipe, I have the kit no smell what so ever and I'm stage 2+ had it for almost 2 months now

Do your pipes run under the rear of the car or just to the gearbox area? The only way to minimise the smell is to run the piping under the car, anything else (engine bay, rear of gearbox, inner wing area etc.) and you will get a horrid smell in traffic/low speeds through both the vents and with the windows open). It'll also make your engine sound a lot more 'tappety' from cold as you can hear directly in to the crankcase and camcover.

Either stick with the factory PCV or get the R-Tech kit (unless you make your own Vent-to-Atmos breather like i did)

A filter will not help with the smell in the slightest, they're designed to catch and stop oil splattering out of the top of a catch can, and some can be quite restrictive to the escaping gases, especially once saturated in oil

Yes they run under the car

i know some tfsi don't get on with pcv deletes, i looked into what some of the yanks are upto with using venturi to draw gasses out but it's a lot more involved than any other solution.

i still prefer the idea of having gasses drawn out on these motors, however i also like the idea of not having all the gasses run back through turbo / intake  :signLOL:

Venturi through the exhaust would be best but is costly and will need some custom fab as there is no off the shelf kit in the UK (that i know of).

If you can't have them drawn out, then leaving them to escape with as little restriction as possible is the next best thing. I still believe that 2 x 25mm pipes venting naturally is better than 1 19mm (or less) I.D. opening being drawn out through the TIP (PCV delete with catch can). Most aftermarket PCV deletes have such a small recess for the passing of the crank and cam gases that no amount of syphoning will help

i haven't seen your setup Dan, a year or so ago i had the crank venting 19mm hose under car then had bsh delete using the port that was supposed to connect to crank venting cam cover gasses via 19mm under car.

Dan, Did you just use longer hoses for the r-tech pcv delete kit or the ones that came with the kit ?

Il be looking at this Soon, going to clean intake valve then look at a delete to stop them clogging up again. Where are you guys seeing the r tech one? I can't see it on the site.
