There's a couple of new roads in Bedford still not on v16!

From memory, I just burned the file to a DVD-R, shoved it into the RNS and it did the rest.  It takes ages and there is no acknowledgement it's completed either.  It's a bit of a vague and crap process.

In all honesty, I get on better with Apple or Google maps.  I don't miss my RNS510 one bit   I have a rubber case on my phone and just put in the middle of the clocks, it doesn't slide around.  A poor man's version of VAGs new hybrid clocks

Sounds a bit crazy.

If you know the road hasn't been updated, why does it matter

Didn’t know the new one was out already, but the V15 update last year was no different to the V14 maps for roads around where I live, with several missing roads or postcodes and quirks like it doesn’t know you can turn right from a certain road and tries to make you go a longer way than necessary.
Personally I don’t think it’s the best nav but it is convenient to have it permanently in the car having used removable windscreen mounted ones in the past.

Because there is a high probability roads you don't know haven't been added either

When I say 'new' roads in Bedford, they were built over 2 years ago.

Google maps is updated constantly.  VW maps?  Once a year?

It's Navteq that makes the maps. They should do a better job... like consult Google Maps before issuing a new update! :signLOL:

Are the POI and speed cameras built into the maps or are they separate files?

It continues from where it stopped. The radio keeps updating for about 30 minutes after turning off the ignition too.

While installing my maps the car turned off power halfway through (even though key was in ignition still), so I turned on again and the maps started to install again from where it had got to before. Will this be ok or should I reinstall the whole maps from scratch?
It seems to have updated in the version info settings.

It's fine. It completes the update like that without issues. The radio shut off to prevent draining the battery too much.

Probably a really stupid question but how do you update the maps with the speed cameras?

Thought I would ask before I buy some discs, anyone happy to sell me a copy of their maps? I have a mac and I've had issues with burning the maps before so really wanted to avoid going down that route!

I get a camera database for GPS units (TomTom, etc.) of my country and then make my RNS-510 POI personal database with POInspect0r. After making the file I upload it to my radio on the Setup menu. This adds the cameras to the default POI on my map.

On my v16 maps, the speed cameras were already on there once I loaded the disc along with the other POIs.

Actually the speed cameras I have on my maps may have come from a previous POI file I loaded.
I did get a file with speed camera updates when I ordered my maps disc from eBay.
It says July 2018 though, so there are probably more up to date files out there, but this is quite an easy way of loading the database file onto the RNS 510 via SD card.
