Not much progress at the moment, I'm dealing with back problems and struggling to make time between day to day life.

But trying to keep pushing small jobs when I can.

Got the replacement engine mounted to the engine stand, so that I could start getting it ready

Pulled the oil pan because I wanted to check for anything bad, but aside from lots of baked on oil there were no surprises thankfully.

Decided to try and clean up the pan with brake cleaner and lots of scrubbing, but wasn't making much progress. So I decided to try and see if I could make the ultrasonic cleaner work.

Obviously it didn't fit, but after the first go the difference was amazing.

So after a lot of rounds for each end and corner I got it 90% there:

Next step is to pull the oil pump and attempt a diy balance shaft delete.

I also picked up a new replacement front support bar as the old one was rusty. The new one was ok, but it picked up a few scratches in shipping, so I decided to give it a coat of paint for some extra protection.

Unfortunately once I had finished painting and clear coat, and left it to dry, it fell over , so it's now black again as I ran out of red. Not a big deal just more work.

I bet the pin in the top of the gear selector in the box has seized  :happy2: Unbolt the selector and inspect.

I attempted to remove the gear selector pin L bracket today, I couldn't completely remove it as the gearbox mount is in the way, I managed to remove it 3/4 of the way and added some grease. It wasn't completely siezed but quite tight, there seems to be a plastic sleeve in the bore where the pin slides in. The problem is better but not 100% resolved, I think I need to remove completely and inspect the bore.
Is there anything below the gearstick in the the bushings etc that could cause a simular isdue/ tightness?
Thanks Fir Reply GVK

Hi I'm after some advice, my gear selector has become very stiff side to side and doesn't spring back to centre neutral. Also 3rd has become a pain to select.
I'm leaning towards selector pin on top of gearbox being siezed, but any knowledge info would be highly appreciated.
Cheers

The inserts I bought didn't fit 'out of the box' either. I was pretty miffed at the time but in the end took a stanley knife to both halves at the connecting 'jigsaw' tab to make the whole thing a little slimmer - just enough to make them fit.

As you say, there seems to be a few variations on the inner outline. I think the R32 has the rear luggage anchor points higher up to cater for the inserts (they'll get hidden on ours).

I'm definitely getting the rear ones as well, but a bit later cause this went way over budget. I'll be fitting braided lines too when I add the rears. I wanted to see how it'll feel with the S3 rubber lines first. Good find on the brake clips, I'll deffo look into them.
