Bit more progress - basically got all the De-Ox treatment done, washed it all down and prepped the surfaces, then gave it a prime with the Bilt Hamber primer:

Then moved onto the underneath - I’ve not done the full floor like but most of the rear and a few spots that were bubbling further along near to the front.

First step was a full degrease and buzz with the wire brush/flap disc

Also found another bit that needed cutting out and re-making 😭

Then primed and given a coat of stonechip

Then finally covered everything with a couple coats of LA7W and some lacquer - starting to take shape now 😎

Last things to do before fitting all the bits back on is to get the holes patched and welded (didn’t have enough time the other day so just wanted to get everything coated so it didn’t start to rust again being bare metal) and then give everything a coat of Dynax UC

Then need to make the new brake lines as none of the 4 old ones came off without shearing 😂 - suppose its another ‘While I’m in there’ job, then finally back on with the bits and hopefully get it finished off! The hope is to get it done before I go on Holiday at the end of the month 🤞🏻

All depends on what PN you have fitted now. There are two generations of immobiliser and the clusters need to match.

The early ones are programmable and the later are very difficult

There is a thread somewhere with all the detail.

I have the 10 speaker system also and replaced all the speakers with Pioneer in the front doors and Kenwood in the back doors. I did keep the original front door tweeters as they sounded better to me, but did leave the inline capacitor thinking about it when it was connected to the OE crossover.

I have a 180,000 mile 2009 MK5 GTI with the ea888.1 2.0TSI, I got it at around 160k and had no problems until now, I recently started getting a low oil pressure light that would go away immediately, I was told by the local shop that I was probably just a sensor as they notoriously go out, replaced the sensor and was fine until a few days later when the light was happening again, didn’t throw any codes and would come on at around 20mph~, figured it was an oil pump so I ordered one, otw home the engine stalled out, I didn’t even notice it happening, I just noticed the engine had died at the light, tried bump starting it to no avail,buddy came to jump me and afterwards the entire car shook very badly, replaced the alternator and performed a throttle body reset because I assumed the shaking was from the car losing adaptations or I damaged an engine mount with the bump starting attempts. It continued to shake and I was receiving the light again, parked it for a week while I waited on having time to work on it, dropped the oil pan and saw CHUNKs of aluminum in the pickup pipe and oil pan, could this be a balance shaft or timing chain tensioner failure, if so what could the aluminum be from? Is it worth changing the balance shafts and doing a timing chain service or would I need a new engine, not the most mechanically inclined but I’m very confident, currently helping a buddy with a big turbo build in his focus st and learning a lot. Any information helps me at this point, I just want my car back man :(

Mk5 General Area / Aftermarket speakers with OEM AMP?

I have the factory 10-speaker system in my Mk5 Jetta, including the factory amplifier under the driver's seat and a RNS 510 head unit (retrofit).

The speakers are now almost 20 years old and a few of them are starting to fail, so I'm looking into replacing them while keeping the OEM amp and RNS 510 for the factory look/integration.

Has anyone had good results replacing the speakers while keeping the factory amplifier and head unit? I'm mainly interested in speaker recommendations that work well with the OEM amp.

My other Mk5 has Hertz Dieci speakers running off the stock head unit without an amplifier. They sound pretty flat compared to when I had an aftermarket head unit installed, which makes me think the OEM radio doesn't really like the 4Ω aftermarket speakers compared to the factory setup.

I'd prefer not to replace the RNS 510 or add an aftermarket amp unless absolutely necessary. Has anyone successfully upgraded the speakers in this setup?
