Mk5 General Area / Re: clutch pedal stuck half way/not returning
« Last post by hcmzah on March 06, 2026, 09:13:33 pm »
i've now resolved this issue. since changing the master cylinder, i couldn't get the clutch bleeded correctly. i kept pressure bleeding and pressure bleeding but the pedal would still feel terrible.
i then found a single post about this online where someone had the same issue. they suggested to have the car tilted downwards, pressure bleed, tilt upwards and bleed again.

this ended up working. i guess the air bubbles go to the highest point at each tilt which is the master and slave cylinder

Wondering if the ABS unit has been replaced  or coded by a non- ESP unit in the past?

I had the DNX516DABS fitted in my car. Decent enough unit and integrated easily with the steering controls etc but I was looking to swap it for a more modern unit with wireless connection before I eventually got rid of the car.

Mk5 General Area / Re: How Much Does Wheel and Tyre Affect Ride Comfort

The ride is definitely softer on 17” tyres, the increase in sidewall should always improve the comfort level, albeit with a slight deterioration in handling.

Due to the recent warm weather, I managed to drive the Golf... And I have to report the seating position (with the lower seats and steering wheel adapter) is awesome. I truly love it. I feel much more connected tot the car than previously.
As of now, so after only a 15km (9 mile) drive, I have to say the mods are worth it.
Compared to the driving position in my previous 718 GT4 or my current 911, I only dislike 2 things: the pedals are offset to the right (at least for LHD cars) and because of the steering spacer the steering wheel stalks are 5cm further away from the steering wheel (and harder to access especially if you have small hands).

And, something new:

These are BBS CH024 made for Audi (8P0601025R). The offset is 54 (7,5 x 18, ET 54, CB 57.1), so not ideal especially for my car, but I'll fit larger wheel spacers.
Just couldn't pass them on because they were heavily discounted by Audi themselves.
Can't wait to have them fitted!

I find Google better as it deep dives better into the forum

Just add mk5golfgti.co.uk to the search keywords and you're golden.
