MKV Rear inner light mods - possible ?
« on: April 28, 2009, 01:09:54 pm »
Now that the newer MK6 (alright the MK 5¼) is out, I quite like the fact that the additional light clusters mounted in the boot lid are not just reverse and fog like the MK5, but are also tail lghts.

Looking at the inners on the MK5, if you didn't know the model well, you would swear that the outside ring of the inners should light up light (like the outside clusters). We all know however that they are just refelectors.

My question is, is there anyway (using LEDS or similar) to get these inner parts to light up as tail lights or would it be far too complicated and impossibe ?

Any comments welcome.

It can be done, see here:

Seems like you would need to know about these type of things to pull it off though!

Thanks forthat Cooper.

Hmmm...... looks a little involved, perhaps I'll leave it

Shame that one of the aftermarket manufacturers hasn't cotton'd onto this (epsecially with the LEDS ones).

....

I'd love to be able to do this mod (or get someone else to do it for me!) but it does look very involved and beyond my extremely limited capabilities.

Some of the Spanish English is classic! : -

"First we must remove the sleeve of the gear, for it grabbed her by 2 sides, and throw without fear but with great care, (going a bit tough). When we see what we have out as another case that covers what is left below the hole, making a bit of force on one end, we can get up without much difficulty."

And: "Now assemble the lighthouse and this is the result"

as per the How to...it is possible but it will probably be dimmer or brighter than the original, which would do my nut in
