Rear knocking
« on: April 22, 2019, 11:19:44 am »
Hi all,

Over the past couple of days I have noticed a knocking noise coming from the rear passenger side of the car, only happens when going over speed bumps, small potholes etc.. anyone have an idea what it could be as it’s rather irritating me!

Could be a few things... you need to look really. Starting place would be arb bushes

Just had a quick look and the arb bushes look fine to me although perished so might be worth changing? But one thing I did notice was the foam at the top of the shock has started to fall apart so could that be causing the noise or stopping the shock from performing its job?

Had something similar going over bumps and it turned out to be the rubber stoppers at the end of the parcel shelf string as they dangle around the boot and can hit off the side. It was driving me nuts until I figured it out!

Found the problem, it’s a loose brake disc back plate of all things :signLOL:

That's more of a tinny rattling than a knock though!  Knocking normally comes from dead bushes on the swing arms.

@Pudding yes when outside the car it does sounds like a rattle but it was very loose for some reason!
but when driving seemed to make an odd noise, never easy to describe a noise when there’s so many things to make one  :signLOL:
