nc35, where have you got a quote for £45 for changing the water pump??? The pump itself is £85 if it's fitted for free.

My best quote so far is this:

Timing belt kit: £65.13
Water pump: £85.14
Antifreeze: £24.99
Fitting: £114.94

Total: £290.20

Chris recommended White Rose VW, just outside Keighley.

Ben in service is way too helpful, knows and loves the GTI. Which can't be a bad thing.

Service is £90 price match.
Cambelt change is £280 price match.
Water pump £40 offered up by Ben thier cost fitted free
MOT £30 price match.

I was just about to ask for the water pump, but Ben beat me to it. Bradford VW did quote £45 fitted for the pump and £285 for the cam belt change.   VW Leeds wanted £45 for the pump & £40 fitting.

Try shopping arround, VW say they will price match any garage using genuine parts.

Good luck.

Thats all very cheap guys, admittedly only spoken to VW garages not indys but cheapest so far that ive found is £516 without pump.

Cheers NC35.

So the question is should I get it changed, the sales manager has offered to get it doen for me at his rates which is ~£300 rather than wait for my family of mice to turn up! car is 5 years and on 32k.

Also getting T&D with LL oil, and DSG service so already looking at a £350 bill for that...  :surprised:

what are your thoughts people?

My local indy. They're called Burley Hill Garage in Leeds. My fiance and her family have been using the place for years with great service.

Will dig out my invoice for the DSG service. Had it done last year but can't remember the service being silly expensive.

Btw would get the DSG done at VW someone will correct me. But quite a specialist operation, wouldn't trust an indy just to save a few ££££.
Just my 2p

The DSG oil and filter change on my car was £150. I had it done by my local VW dealer this year.

Cheers Robert, have been quoted more than that, so that gives me a position to haggle do you mind telling me which garage, and was that inc VAT?

Bit hard to work out from the invoice,

But DSG service                               £40.00

GETR.OEL (Part Num 052 182 A2)   £67.32 - I am assuming this is the DSG Oil
Filter (Part Num 305 051 C)            £8.12    - DSG Filter??

So about £115 plus VAT

This was part of the 40k service so included oil & air filters, spark plugs, and a sump plug!!!  total for everything was £284.42  Smith Knight Fay Bury.  0161 797 9121

Can't add any comments as this was done by last owner who has kept EVERY (!!!!) receipt.

Still don't know when they changed to 4 year intervals for the cam belt, obviously not last year.
Previous owners would have had it done at the time of service.

Sorry, no that was plus VAT. I have found the invoice and it's funny how you always like to remember things were cheaper than they actually were.

The break down was as follows:

1 hour Labour £82.50
Washer £0.59
Filter £9.78
6 litres of oil £63.03
Total £155.93
VAT £27.29
Total inc. VAT £183.22

The work was done by Beadles VW in Otford Kent.
