Author Topic: New or Refurbished Inlet Manifold on BWA to solve loss of boost pressure issue  (Read 1045 times)

So I use a VW specialist independent and dropped my 2007 MKV GTI BWA in to them to investigate why she was down on power. I had assumed that it would be down to a failed Diverter Valve. So apparently the diverter valve is fine and it needs a new Inlet Manifold. Garage is quoting 380 for the part new - but I'm screwed if I can find a new one at all anywhere, never mind cheaper - Eurocarparts don't stock it. I can see a few used ones on ebay and this guys one for £50 that is "Tested" and comes with a 3 month warranty:

So -  does any of this make sense? Should I risk the cheaper used part (maybe with a replacement seal) or suck it up and get the £380 new one? Can anyone advise of an alternate cheaper new oem part anywhere?

My assumption is that I'll get them to de-carbon the valves when they're replacing the manifold.

Also - I've now got 134k on her and as far as I'm aware the Cam follower has never been changed (well at least since I bought her with 90k) - do I need to get this addressed asap or is this not so much of an issue on the BWA engine?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Unless the manifold has cracked (pretty much unheard of), or the flaps are jammed shut, I can't see how it can be the manifold.   Ask the specialist what specific part of the manifold is causing the boost loss.  Maybe they mean the latter because the control motor has failed.  Best to check with them before shelling out that kind of loot.

Definitely replace the cam follower at that mileage!
