Coolant warning light(check coolant level)

This is an intermittent fault on mine when starting from cold. Switch off and restart and it's cleared.
Coolant is at correct level, I've read the old thread on this but there weren't any definitive answers if it was possible to get a new sensor in the expansion tank or new tank?

Any part numbers and advice on fitting thanks?

Tank easy to replace costs about £20 from TPS  :happy2:

So you have to replace the whole tank and not just the sensor?

We had and have the same on the TT mk1 and other vag cars too.
Sometimes a clean of the prongs in the bottle resolve the issue.

Cheers I'll try cleaning the prongs first them, what do you use to clean them or just give them a wipe?
Need a gadget to suck out the coolant, any pointers?

small wire brush or similar to clean the prongs ☺

Had this issue from start intermittently for 6 months then it was occurring with every switch on. Very simple; just clamp or vice grip up the 2 pipes.

Replaced the tank last weekend and no problems at all since! My prongs looked very clean with no corrosion at all, so not sure if cleaning them would have done any good!

Would suggest opening the tank (to relieve pressure) before disconnecting any pipes as the pressure that is built up in the system will force coolant out of the overflow pipe at a high rate... Coolant in mouth is not a nice taste! :P

LOL I'll remember that then. Looks like it's just a couple of screws to undo and the hose clips?

Yep - 2 torx 25 screws holding it in and then the 2 hoses. I was able to get the thing largely out with just the main hose connected still and then just tip the remaining coolant in the tank into a waiting paint roller tray. Then removed the bottom hose once clamped up. Easy - 10 min job.

We fitted this last week and problem sorted.  :happy2: cheers for advice.
Just remembered, when I called the main dealer service reception before I asked on here and told them of the problem, the guy said it sounded like the temp sensor. I asked how much and he said £150, guess that was plus fitting....makes you wonder how qualified the service reception people are?
I don't have a clue with mechanicals so would have taken him at his word. With labour @ £99/hr +VAT, that could have cost a few quid and still not cured the problem.....

Hah glad to hear it's sorted!

My uncle is a mechanic and says often to my "internet advice" that everyone online now thinks they're an expert mechanic and that most don't have a clue. This proves otherwise  :signLOL:
