Well... as I previously said I was suposed to fit the seats during the weekend. Well... it was not the best weekend ...
I started with taking the OEM seats out when I found out that the side mounts for the seats did not arrive (the couriers fault again)  :sad1:
I called the supplier and he was fortunate to have another set of RECARO side mounts on stock so he sent those. Yesterday they arrived . But... the bolts for them were missing  :sad1:

I was really down and lost all confidence that I would ever be able to mount the seats.  :sad1:

Yesterday I visited a hardware shop where I bought all the nuts and bolt needed and out of frustration I decided to have a go.
Here is the result:

Today I have to complete the operation and install the driver side seats. Hope all goes well!

And another thing I've done over the last days (in the weekend), I changed the wheels. I've gone for the summer tires and rims.

With my usual luck, I started the operation on a warm 6 degrees afternoon and I finished the installation about 2 hours later (I also had to lower the car by 5-7mm). When I finished the switch it was snowing heavily and the snow was already 2-3 cm thick. So, unfortunately I had to go home on not quite ideal summer conditions. On the way home there are some hills and I even got to go up a 8% incline with 2-3 cm of snow (I was the first car) with my summer setup. The GoodYear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tires were great in the snow. I had no traction issues .

Thanks for watching!

The seat will make a massive difference when on the limit, helps with the feel. Just a little observation though. You have fitted it on the wrong side.  :P

Are you sure about the wrong side?

If you are right they you got a task for you by telling all the nutters in the UK that they need changing in their cars  :P

Over the top mod list ;o)

Ha ha . Nice one guys!

I installed the driver seat also. Please excuse the dirt:

The seat feels awesome but I have to wait for the weekend when I will have a 5 hour drive and a track day.
I am really curious to see how the seats will be on the long run considering that this car is my daily drive.

Cheers!

Hmm, interesting...your sidemounts look completely different than mine ! You should be 18Kg lighter with the new seats ! :)

You should buy these mounts also  :happy2:. I think 18kg is too much.

Thanks! I haven't weighed them but I doubt they are 5kg/piece lighter than OEM.

The oem Cupra seats are meant to be 35kg each!  :surprised:

I think that's a bit too much Mike. My GTI front seats with leather, electric lumbar support and heating only had 26kg each while the Poleposition with the sidemounts and sliding rails had 17Kg, so 9kg less ! Rex's OEM seat must have about 24-26Kg also !

Interesting.

I thought the GTI seats are ~ 32 kg, the VW Motorsport seats are ~ 22 kg.

Hopefully my measurement was correct since I weighed the seats on a body balance wich is much smaller than the seat so the seat might have touched the ground around the balance (from what I remember, it didn't but who knows ?)

I didn't do the measurement on my own. I just have read about it on a forum.

Well guys, I wanted to weigh the OEM seats but forgot.
I will weigh them as soon as I come back from Hungaroring  :driver:.
All the best!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I came back from the Hungaroring track day and I wanted to share a few thoughts...
I haven't seen the videos yet so I have no idea if I improved my best time. But I can tell you some strong points and minuses that the car has.

Strong points:
- I love the way that the car is balanced. It oversteers slightly in some corners and understeers in other (normal behavior I would say)
- the seats are ok ("okish") for normal road use. I used them for a 450km (~300 miles) trip with no back pain.

Minuses:
- the brakes are not enough. I overcooked them. I need some brake vents (advice on this chapter is more than welcomed) and maybe some proper track pads.
- missfire issues. I got some missfire errors and these interrupted my sessions (I had to stop the car and start the engine to make them go away and to make the car get out of the limp mode). All these errors were above 6200 RPM and I think the coils are to blame (these one are on the car for the last . Have you guys (the ones with 1.4 TSI engines) changed the OEM coils? If yes, with what? Thanks!
- the OEM seatbelts are rubbish with the RECARO seats. I need to have the 4 point harness installed a.s.a.p.
- I need to change the OEM engine and gearbox mounts because in one particular corner I could not shift into 4th

Here are some photos with the car in action:
