The boost pipe thing  :ashamed:

The long pipe which is coming off the wategate in those pics is whats known as a dump tube, or screamer pipe..

The wastegate modulates how much exhaust gas can get to the turbo housing, when it sees a specified boost setting on the vacuum from the N75 it will open (a specific amount based on throttle, revs, load etc) so you have exhaust gas, pre turbo, coming out of the pipe..

Most external gate set ups run the pipe back into the downpipe, so it just comes out of the exhaust tail pipes, on the S3, I ran it open dump to the ground, on the ED30 im running it out of the bonnet.. So yeah, a bit daft but good fun, and its going to be absolutely INSANELY loud too..

Lets hope is nothing like the turbo they fitted to the Evo 8 FQ400....laggy POS

Looks like a ncie bitta kit though, nice to see the results.

Just one thing i noticed, the inlet housing isn't ported, you'll be running into compressor surge no ?

Kudos to you for your build threads, i enjoy reading them and watching the cars evolve :drinking:

The FQ400 turbo is a GT3076R but the reason its laggy is all in the mapping, it was requested from Ralliart UK to help maintain the drivetrain etc.. Hence why it also had a stupid clutch in it.. Its running M800 as standard, trust me, I have been in one with an Owens sorted map on it and its a different car all together..

I had the same turbo on the S3 and I had full boost at 3800rpm, not bad when you consider its capable of making 600+ hp at 1.8bar on a 2.0L motor!!

Im running the compressor diffusor for flow, there will be no issue with surge on this motor, the turbo is more than big enough.. Its the same basic spec as what they run on the F2 cars, which use a 1.8T Audi motor, so its tried and tested..

Cheers  :happy2:

The car is going in first thing tomorrow, should all going well have all the K04 stuff off, and the new parts mocked up, then all on Friday.. Not really a huge job, made easier with the V-band parts etc..

Jonny, are they doing the build in-situ or is this an engine out job?

I still have to disagree, driven both the std FQ400 and a remapped one, the turbo was still a laggy POS compared to say the Evo Green unbit or the hybrid std unit i ran on mine (at the same power)

But we'll have to agree to disagree i guess, not the issue now

So how come no ported inlet but a flow difuser ?

Just in situ, because its all V-banded it makes it an easier job anyways!.. Shouldn't take too long really..

Ahh cool, thanks for that mate.. Sure they will like to keep up to date on it.. Especially when its up and running!

So how come no ported inlet but a flow difuser ?

Guess so, only talking from my experience but it certainly wasn't a laggy POS on my S3, and the ED30 is running higher compression, so if anything its going to be better, especially with the modifications..

Im running the flow diffuser as thats what Owens recommended based on the development work they have done with this turbo on the 1.8T F2 engines and their own Evo race car..

I had the standard off the shelf GT3076R on the S3 running the same manifold, so I will be able to feel if all the bits have made a difference or not.. Only difference in spec was slightly lower compression on the S3 and a little bit of head work..

How can you disagree? He's just been running this same turbo kit on his s3... If he says it wasn't laggy like the evo then it wasn't laggyy...  :stupid:
