Idling high and self revving?

Alright guys

As some of you may have gathered I'm not very talented when it comes to mechanics

So for the last week or so the golf has been playing up, it idles fine then within seconds it's raises from 700 to about 1200rpm if I rev the engine it drops back down again before raising

As well as this every now and when I go to change gear the engine will stick at 2000 until I rev or release the clutch

I've read it could be the pcv but wanted some confirmation from you guys, gonna do the dip stick test tomorrow and see if that shows anything could it be anything else?

My vote is the PCV valve, a friends seat leon cupra was doing the exact same self reving and he had the PCV valve replaced to resolve it

How much are the parts and how hard is it to change? Had the cam follower changed 2 weeks ago and havent got a sh*t load of money to throw at a garage
Also could the garage have caused danage to it whilst doing the follwer?

It is very easy to change, have a look at this thread, it gives you the part number and shows you where it is on the engine - basically it's on top under the engine cover and it's 4 bolts

Defo PCV valve. I had exact same issue not long ago. Don't go to a dealer whatever you do, they will say it's an injector misfiring and try and charge you for a new one.

There are pros and cons to both, do some searching on the bsh Pcv delete and revo delete, few threads on the subject already.

Alright guys got a suprese last week ended up in New York for a few days, lucky me!

While I was out there im got a hold of a 42dd stealth catch can, solves the problem of the sh*tty pcv and doesn't create back pressure like a block off plate win win!

Aiming to fit it tomorrow so I can finally drive it properly again!
