Make sure you give it a polish to before waxing, srp will see you fine.

I recommend the Autofinnesse ultraglaze.

I've used it for several years before winter topped with a decent wax (i use autofinesse illusion) though i have used poorboys natty blue paste and its lasted the course of the winter.

Easy to apply and remove too.

Have you thought about using a sealant? I use Sonax Polymer Net Shield and it gives about 6 months worth of protection from the elements. Give it a hand polish then apply a couple of coats.
