ipod connection
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:50:34 pm »
I have got an standard head unit in my car (I think it is the RD300 or RCD300? - its the single CD one)
What I want to do is connect my iopd touch to the unit.
I am aware that there are many unit that will do this for me.
What I want to know from you chaps is your experience of what control should I expect from my head unit with different data links.
I just want to be sure what to expect before I put my hand in my pocket.
I have been told so many different things, so I wanted peoples real experiences.
Thanks very much

Head unit control is crap - no artist or track name.

Get yourself a parrot mki9200! Much better.

I had the Parrot, it was OK, once you got your head round it, full control was possible, however for me it wasn't slick enough, especially with the tomtom on the dash as well, so I took it all out and got an RNS510, with Fiscon bluetooth and the MDI, best part of a grand plus, but very worth it. :happy2:

When you use a data cable for the connection how do you switch between the CD and the ipod?
I have heard that you press the CD button once for CD and twice for the IPOD
Any ideas
Ps there isnt a AUX button on my head unit
Cheers

Thats right, once for head unit CD, twice for iPod

I have the armrest type, and its alright.  Certainly better than the Dension/VW glovebox one as it doesn't crash all the time.

I fitted an xcarlink http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/home.php?cat=2 to mine. Note I got the USB/SD type but they do an ipod specific version. Both have AUX in. I can still use the steering wheel controls to skip tracks/volume/mute etc.

Fitting took me about 1 hour and the sound quality/functionality is great.

my one has the cable in the glove box hidden away it was like that when i bought it and to be honest it is a total  nightmare you would be miles better with splashing some dollar on a fancier set up
