But... How do i do that?
Do i take the cam cover off to check the peaks? In which case I'd do an investigatory rout around inside the cam cover , put it back together as is and order parts to replace chain and possible cam lobe & shaft?
Also what would be considered excessive wear on the lobe?

The follower is weird, i almost feel like its a fingerprint of different owners. No prizes for guessing me.
But the wear marks really are distinctively different. The most central one is so well grouped and was there for so long started to rust.
I think the next owner moved this wear to to the larger 'black' circle, no rust.
As you can still see the white marks of the coating on the outer wear marks id guess id have to hold my hands up to that.
