Thinking about water/meth install

(1/3) > >>

Madone:
Decided to see if I could put some more timing into my Revo stage 2+ edition 30, it as setup by a tuner but thought I would run some logs and go 1 higher on the timing. As expected the timing pull was higher than I would like so gone back to the numbers set by the tuner. Nice to see they did it properly anyway

To get that extra timing I am thinking water/meth injection. What is the verdict. @Dan_FR , hopefully you can chip in here.

Do most people use Devilsown?, they state most people use the washer fluid tank ?, how long does it last before a refil is due ?

Dan, I think you are running timing 9 ??, that's epic, I went from 6 to 7 and got too much pull.

How hard is the fitting ?, Devils do a VAG kit which runs from the standard MAF sensor I think ?, and is a progressive system ?

Cheers

Dan_FR:
I use the washer tank. I usually top it up weekly out of habit when checking the oil but it would probably last a month  (circa 600 miles) before topping up.

Ran T9 through the winter with hardly any (or no) correction for most of the rev range. Dropped it to 8 as the temps increased and the timing pull is zero once the meth kicks in. Might leave it like that happy in the knowledge that it's safe, I've also leaned the mixture out a little too as I was running it pretty rich to compensate. Previously ran t6 with smallish amounts of correction.

I run the most basic  devil's own kit which uses a simple boost activated switch. Granted it's on/off but it does the job very nicely with the added benefit of not having to run ANY wiring or pipework in to the car. Everything is contained within the engine bay which made fitting very simple.

Worth doing. Really does make a huge difference when running a proper 50/50 mix with pure methanol (not using screenwash)

Madone:
Where and how do you plumb the water nozzle ?

I am seriously tempted, even driving my car with timing 7 and it being pulled back it felt fantastic !

Is it easy to setup ?, I read you can adjust the activation pressure it injects at ?, just a case of logging and moving that point ?

Cheers

Dan_FR:
I have an AKS throttle body spacer. Uprated charge pipes often have the boss needed for the nozzle.

Very easy. Mine is set up to inject very early, you can either temporarily wire up an LED indicator (crudely running it in to the car) or do it solely from the logs. Easy to tell when injecting as the difference to the IAT is huge.

Difference is huge, and I see my timing in the low 20's by 6k rpm so it's happy with lots of it. My favourite power mod to date with the biggest impact £ for buck (excluding stage 1 remap of course).

Madone:
Thanks mate

So what would be my best option to mount the injector ?, where did you tap off for the pressure sensor ?

I def like the idea, would be a massive gain to run more timing. I guess a progressive system means you can use less water overall and ramp up delivery ?

Can you use a meth water mix ?, is there a min ratio ?

Cheers mate
