Is Facebook killing off the traditional forums?
berg:
I wouldn't even think of going on FB for car related things, spend loads less time on here after I stopped modding as am not looking for advice on new parts all the time, just drive the thing these days!
Circs change and have had two kids since joined on here and moved house so don't have any free cash either, so just don get time to come on as much anyway

No, there are a few of us. Facebook just isn't something I need in my life.
Tapatalk works really well for me by the way. I'm not sure why people don't like it. There's no fannying about with image hosting and everything's clear and simple.

I've got an account but don't use it either. I joined the TFSI tuning group in the spring because as the group's name suggests, I like the technical side of cars......but I haven't been on there for months now because of all the bun fighting. Shame really because Niki does share a lot of knowledge. Most tuners are unwilling, so kudos to him.
Facebook doesn't suit introvert types like me, and it's not built for couples either. As far as I can make out (from seeing the way my gf, friends, friends of friends use it) it's a superficial platform built for attention seekers. Yeah I've got 10,000 friends, but have only met 3 of them in real life, and only hang out with 1 of them regularly "off air". Please like my Selfie, please share this and get all your friends to share it, click like if you like my post - yawn.
Still, if that gives them pleasure, so be it! As a self professed Victor Meldrew, I'm happy being shut off from social media. It doesn't enrich my life in any way. The world is full of negativity at the moment, so staying away from social media, the news, newspapers etc is a good thing in my book. Ignorance is bliss as they say. I like forums though and have met some great friends over the years through them
I'm sure a lot of people have saved a lot of money and picked up some great advice from forums over the years, so long may they live!!

Bravo. I can relate to the majority of that. There's something quite fulfilling to existence independent of social media. In fact, I think life was better before mobiles and the internet.
This forum though; I'll make an exception. It's priceless.

If the far eastern hackers succeed in bringing down the internet, seriously, people won't know what to do with themselves, especially the social media lovers
I've always lived by the 'what I don't know can't hurt me' mantra. My GF and friends regularly blurt out "OMG, I can't believe so and so just posted that....." Really? I don't give a schitt. If they want to air their dirty laundry online whilst in a drunken stupor, let them get on with it. It's like an online EastEnders, but some folk thrive on drama though I guess :)
I have actually driven past my GF on a dual-carriageway once, looking down at her phone. Apparently she was seeing what was going on on her FB newsfeed. I can't stand crap driving at the best of times, but being someone I care about, I had to bollock her for it. But she didn't get it. Typical attitude of a lot of girls her age these days unfortunately. It's all tons of foundation, caterpillar eye brows and pouting faces - from above, as to not get a double chin in the selfie. Sigh. See, told ya I was a Meldrew
Anyway, I hereby lay down a challenge to the online connected folk of today - Turn your phone, computer, TV and anything internet connected off for one week. Can you manage it?
