Hendry:
Thought it was about time I updated this:

So, whats been happening.........Well I removed the ugly towbar and all associated wiring, all the spaghetti junction wiring for taxi related stuff and the mudflaps which hadnt helped with the rust issues these cars suffer from.

Next I went to VW (Ingram Ayr) regarding the front wing and sill rust, got all that 100% covered on the anti corrosion guarantee and got 2 brand new wings, whilst it was in they recommended blending the doors which I had done and at the same time had a deep gouge on the passenger door repaired.

Then I suffered a broken coil spring and also noticed that my NSR brake caliper was seizing on, so into the garage (Independent VW specialist) and had a new spring, Comline rear discs and pads put on and a new (recon) genuine VW NSR caliper.

Next I then had the rear door windows and rear screen professionally tinted, and came into a little bit of money so I had the car a full service (all genuine VW oil filter, sump plug, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and the longlife low Saps DPF 5w30 oil using Rock Oil) whilst in I asked them to see if anything was worn because the car was wandering all over the place and steering wheel off centre, so it was diagnosed as rear lower arm bushes being seized meaning the rear geometry couldnt be altered, also the lower arms were heavily corroded, so I the old arms cut off, had 2 new genuine arms including new camber bolts etc. all replaced.

I noticed my undertray was missing so went to VW to enquire about a new one, was told there was 4 possible choices but all were greyed out on ETKA meaning the guy couldnt select one, he called VW technical dept who said my cars build sheet didnt show it as leaving the factory with one, but it definitely did have one because I saw it before my dads mechanic mustve removed it and never refitted it, so I had the garage look into it and source one and they got one that fitted. I then took the car for a 4 wheel alignment/geometry adjustment, using a Hunter Hawkeye machine which makes the car drive far far better. Also had new engine cover rubber buffers as it was flapping about and didnt clip on properly, and a set of new genuine wiper blades.

Then I had a new set of plates fitted because the old ones were water damaged, delaminating and looked crap. Then on to some minor mods, LED bulbs fitted in the front interior lights and footwell lights, a mk6 Golf traction control switch to replace my broken "ESP OFF" switch, I also fitted a Scirocco chrome headlight switch, a Golf Climatronic top dash air vent to replace the storage tray, a chrome glovebox handle, and replaced the beige fronted auto dim mirror with an all black one from a Golf GT. So gradually adding my own touches to the car, but it will be slow as moneys tight.

On the plus side I discovered my car already has a 30byte Highline CECM fitted, the correct slip ring for mk6 MFSW fitting, and a mk6 cruise control stalk, so that should save some money and hassle when it comes to adding an MFSW.
