MK7 R - MAX POWER

(1/2) > >>

Black9:
Without uprating turbos what sort of power can the MK7 R make? How well does the DSG handle it?

If it's taken to the next level with uprated turbos and maybe internals how reliable is it and what sort of power can be expected?

rich83:
Just over 400 bhp I believe. 420 maybe

MC71:
Yeap.....400ish from standard turbo. That's with Stage 2 and intake, Inlet pipe, downpipe (decat or sport cat) and Intercooler.

DSG will be fine for stage 1 and probably 2 for 400bhp but can be mapped to handle it better and should def be mapped after that. The IS38 OEM turbo is a weak point and not worth pushing it past stage2....I won't be pushing mine past Stage1 before changing the Turbo to a Hyprid one. Many choices around........

TTE do several Hyprid turbos...TTE470 or TTE525R so lots of peeps running 530+ and a few 570+. Rick at Unicorn tuning is working with Littco turbo company to develop their hyprid turbo which will mid way between the 2... The L500. Then you've REVO who are bringing a BT to the table with 500+ Hyprid  and APR also do a Hyprid with around 520bhp.

MRC tuning mapped a Hyprid s3 2.0TSI to 598bhp IIRC (don't quote me) so 600 will soon be around on a R, if not already.

Plus an R has just smashed though the 10 second 1/4 mile barrier in the US of A. Once shot of the OEM turbo the Ea888 Gen.3 2.0TSI is a belter.

Seen a YouTube video of a 75year old with an M135i making circa 550bhp. Got me thinking. Not much out there better than a high power hatch as a daily sleeper. Problem with RWD is traction, my C63 is circa 550 Bhp with super sports and quaife and struggles for traction 70% of the time. Golf R with around 450-500 bhp sounds like the ideal car, nice looking, AWD, reliable and cheap to run. Would prefer a manual but think that would be the weakest part of a 500bhp car?

I saw that yesterday evening too  LLF caught up with him, what a motor - sounded arguably better than the latest gen M3 & M4. I'm pretty sure the roof targets and probably limitations of that block will be around 600ps without a lot more internally doing to it but it looked bloody fun.

My friend has a circa 410ps Mk7 GTI PP (DSG) with a Hybrid 7R turbo by MRC which goes extremely well, obviously when driven on limits there's a lot of performance lost because of FWD and the factory diff only goes some way to alleviating that. In gear however, it's absolutely savage for what is 'just a golf GTI'. It looks very OEM too, definitely in the sleeper category  :happy2:

I think even his in the GTI would cope with a manual box, he's blown a few things in the 2 years he's been tuning it, if you're staying manual I'd go for something like a JB4 to 400'ish in the stage 2 territory as you've said? Covers you from a few more angles, I guess.

Had plenty of positive feedback on them from both BMW and VAG group owners although cause my 4-series is a diesel (430d N57 engine) it'd be no good to me, so no direct experience of them as a tuning device.
