DSG will be fine for stage 1 and probably 2 for 400bhp but can be mapped to handle it better and should def be mapped after that. The IS38 OEM turbo is a weak point and not worth pushing it past stage2....I won't be pushing mine past Stage1 before changing the Turbo to a Hyprid one. Many choices around........

TTE do several Hyprid turbos...TTE470 or TTE525R so lots of peeps running 530+ and a few 570+. Rick at Unicorn tuning is working with Littco turbo company to develop their hyprid turbo which will mid way between the 2... The L500. Then you've REVO who are bringing a BT to the table with 500+ Hyprid  and APR also do a Hyprid with around 520bhp.

MRC tuning mapped a Hyprid s3 2.0TSI to 598bhp IIRC (don't quote me) so 600 will soon be around on a R, if not already.

Plus an R has just smashed though the 10 second 1/4 mile barrier in the US of A. Once shot of the OEM turbo the Ea888 Gen.3 2.0TSI is a belter.

Does the 7R have the 7 speed DQ500 box?  Good for 600nm that.....conservative factory rating  :surprised:

Was it the 780bhp 7R that broke 10 seconds?  Amazing for a street car with full interior (assuming?) and no external mods.  Street tyres?  I don't reckon the Haldex kit will like that for very long, but fun while it lasts  :smiley:

@Pudding

Mk7 R has the 6 speed DSG, the new facelift (Mk7.5 R) has the 7 speed DSG. The 6 speed is good for 600nm, most peeps from Stage2 onwards are running happily with a mapped DSG at 570ft lb+.

As for that mad 7R, couple of vids below....check out how calm and "no fuss" that 9.5sec looks like from inside. Also a list of its specs (below), not cheap but nothing earth shattering in there really and only front seats swapped out for race seats

Mental isn't it.   The DQ250 is a strong old beast then!

AFAIK the DQ250 in the mk7 is stronger and much faster than the previous versions from the mk5 and mk6. Good to know!

Also, gear ratios in the mk5 DSG are pretty much spot on, while the mk7 GTI has too long gear ratios and the 7R too short. Only the Leon Cupra 5F DSG has similar gear ratios as the mk5 DSG.
