MK5 GTI windscreen washer and auto wiper not working when pulled forward

Hi All, hope you can help. Went to clean my windscreen today and when pulling the stalk towards to activate the washer and wipe function, neither worked. The wipers work fine if clicked up to constant, there is a clicking noise coming from under the dash. The rear all works fine.

Sounds like its probably the wiper motor relay. Theres a thread with someone who had similar issues here -

Failing that the stalks also start to wear so Id look there next.
