GTI or ED30? Up to £10k
« on: September 18, 2020, 10:54:23 PM »
Looking for a nice ED30 or Standard GTI.

Ideally DSG and 3 door but would consider manual and 5 dr.

Up to £10k for the right car. Lower mileage and better kept the better.

Thanks

GTI's are good as I have one, but hold out for a nice ED30 for that money

As the owner of a GTi, I would recommend a Pirelli. It’s more rare than the ED30 and I think the values will rise due to both scarcity and the historical resonance with the mk1 Campaign which was marketed as Pirelli edition outside of UK hence the wheels.

Yes, but Edition 30s look a heck of a lot better than Pirellis. Tyre tread seat patterns and kitsch 1990s 5 spoke wheels, hmmmm.

TBH, the whole 'Edition' thing is severely watered down - Edition 25 (MK4), Edition 30 (MK5), Edition 35 (MK6), Edition 40 (MK7)...... who bloody cares, it's just wheels and clip on body panels

However.........visually, the Edition 30, especially in Black 3 door......one of the best looking GTIs ever, imo.  The MK4 Anniversary looks nice as well.  Pirelli looks........meh.

And I suspect few people know the significance of 'Pirelli' anyway.  Apart from the MK1 GTI with Pirelli 'P slot' alloys, there hasn't really been a Pirelli edition since.....and that's because it doesn't mean anything.

The only advantage of ED30/Pirelli is the engine.....but even then it's not a CDL equivalent, just marginally stronger than a BWA.
