Rain Sensor Malfunctioning

Anyone had issues with their rain sensor? If I set my wipers to auto, when driving into direct sunlight or even sometimes just ambient light the wipers will activate. Usually they'll stay on an intermittent speed but sometimes they'll set off full speed and won't stop unless I take them off auto.

My wipers used to randomly go mental without any obvious cause such as rain - plus VCDS had been reporting intermittent issue with wiper stalk.
Replaced it with new aftermarket one - plus 2as I was in there" the indicator stalk too - and it has been fine since.
