DSG kangarooing in 2nd gear
DurinsBane117:
Hi everyone,
I'm having some issues with my Golf GTI. When the car is hot (after driving about 2hrs) it starts kangarooing in 2nd gear when coming to a stop, the revs are jumping up and down when this happens until it changes to 1st, sometimes it will stay in 2nd and I get a loud clunk when I set off while it's in 2nd.
The gearbox oil and filter has been changed last year and also had a dsg reset done which sorted some issues but not the one above. The cars been scanned and shows no fault codes.
Could this be a sign of the mech unit going or worn clutch packs? Was wondering if anyone's experienced the same symptoms and what the fix was.
Thanks!
GreigC:
Failed solenoid or (solenoids) in mechatronics unit. Classic symptoms unfortunately.
I know this because I repaired my DSG solenoids on my car myself.
They are officially called: VARIABLE FORCE SOLENOID N215 & N216
Only buy Borg Warner genuine items not Chinese copies.
Failure usually caused by not keeping DSG serviced on time. The symptoms start once the DSG fluid is up to temperature and oil is thinner and the solenoid(s) can’t operate properly. Giving you the lurch and harsh gear changes from 1st, 2nd & reverse gears.
Thanks

I thought it might be, unfortunately I wouldn't be comfortable doing that myself haha. Will have to see how much a gearbox specialist will charge, may even look into getting a replacement gearbox.
Thanks for your help!

Hi, see link for an idea on price. I've heard these mentioned before and seem to have a good reputation.

Sadly think mine will need doing at some point as i've experienced similar symptoms to you after a long journey. Good to know it might just be the mechatronic i suppose but still a fair old chunk of cash. Dsg services on mine done late at 50k miles & 100k miles (now on 120k).

Thanks for that I'll check out their page, I've found some garages local to me that may be able to do the repair, gonna call them tomorrow to get a rough idea of the price, I know its gonna cost me a fair bit haha.
Bit annoyed that mine is failing tbh as the first dsg service was done at 40k then around 75k and got one done recently at 109k but I know it's a common issue. Hope u get urs sorted!
