Mk5 gti dsg no crank no start
« on: May 01, 2023, 12:06:07 am »
My mk5 gti will not start recently its had a new battery and new starter motor. But went out to the shop before and would not start or crank but when you turn the key to start position you can hear the starter click. Had this problem before and tested the starter and found out it was on its way out. Looked out for codes and there was none.

Hey T4yy18,

Do you have VCDS or used VCDS to scan the vehicle. If so it's best to paste it in here :)

I have no acces to vcds just used a little cheap scanner. But had more of a look at it and found that when the car does not crank if i go to the starter motor and unplugg the one connecter and plugg back in the car stats up.

Does anyone know what this plugg does or what it is for?

That's for the starter solenoid. Trace the harness back and make sure there's no shorts or breaks in those wires.

Manage to figure it out. Did some research and found the ignition switch is common to fail giveing no lights or no start. It was cheap to buy so thought might as well change it. Have had no start problems so far all looking good
