VCDS - ECU Engine Security Code Needed

06 Skoda Octavia vRS TFSI BWA. Just after retrofitting a cruise control stalk, steering control module ends in AF, black diagnostic wire is in the connector. So all the hardware is there to support it. Cruise control stalk is aftermarket - TOPRAN.

Here's my problem - Coding II is greyed out.



Tried Coding --> Long Coding Helper, as that's another method.



Worked the first time. But got 'Cruise Control - Defective' error code in Steering as well as 'please check dtc memory of electric load controller after coding' in Engine. So faulty coding I gather. Test drive also fruitless, cruise control not working nor CC light on dash. All other stalk functions work.

Attempted to unlock Security Access in Engine. Used codes I found online, 12233 and 79153 and neither worked.



Tried undoing and redoing the Long Coding Helper checkbox and got this message:





Anyone know how to get that pesky Security Access code?

I found the code 27971 online. This said "security access accepted!" but apparently nothing changed.

A briskoda post says to set the workshop ID settings, but that did nothing either. That poster has the exact same situation, shame he never posted an update.

Coding II is still greyed out.



And using the long coding to activate cruise control generates this error code in Engine:




Desperate to fix this :(

Forgot this in my last post, I have this code in Steering wheel fault codes.

I looked up the 005699 code on Ross-Tech's site and it has a special note regarding my engine, 'When found in 2.0l TFSI (AXX/BPY/BWA etc.), check Steering Wheel Electronics for Cruise Control related Fault Codes and general Cruise Control Functionality' which led me to the code in the photo below, 00895.

I now believe the TOPRAN branded cruise control stalk I bought is faulty. I'll try get a less-crappy brand one and see if that works.

Yep, I was just thinking "crappy aftermarket parts" when the coding was rejected  :grin:

Try a genuine used one from ebay and see if that accepts it?  At least you won't have wasted brand new cash if it still doesn't take it  :grin:

Hey Pudding, great to see you on the forum again!

Yes, after reading Amazon reviews of the FEBI one it seems that they manufacture the replacement OEM ones, just use a Dremel or something to scrape the VW/Skoda etc. logos off and sell it off as their own. It's arrived, and the clickiness of it seems to match the OEM stalk, so I'm pretty sure it's the real deal. The TOPRAN one was very spongey and mushy in comparison, maybe just an indication of quality.

Unfortunately won't have a chance to install it as I'm going abroad on holidays tomorrow, but I'll post an update on here once it's in. Fingers crossed.

I did of course contact VW for a quote on the stalk, €126 + VAT  :scared: . And no eBay sellers in Ireland selling used ones either.
So I'll give the €51 FEBI a shot first, if it's faulty I can just return it.
