The next issue to deal with was the wipers front and back.
Rear wiper worked  intermittently and front wiper seemed like it was slow as it came to the parked position.

Checked the wiring where enters the tailgate through the rubber grommet and found a couple of broken wires ( common mk5 issue )

Cable tied the boot back so I could extend the wires to allow them to bend easily. Soldered and heat shrinked. I only did the very thin wires and ones the showed damage on the insulation.

This cured the rear wiper works correctly now.
Onto the front wipers.
The paint on the arms were showing their age and mileage so whilst having a look at the mechanism I rubbed them down and repainted them.

Pulled the mechanism out and stripped it down.  One of the spindles was almost siezed solid. I am amazed it hadn’t blown a fuse or burnt the motor out.
Cleaned up and re greased and put back, this has improved the wipers they seem quicker and smoother to park position and saved them failing further down the line.

Next issue I had put up with for 12 months was intermittent drivers door lock, which most of the time didn’t work on the key fob.
Checked the wiring in the body door grommet but no broken wires.
So decided to by a new lock mechanism and hope it would cure it.
Had to be a genuine part £287 from the dealers but managed to find a new one on EBay for £150.00
Followed a great guide from the humble mechanic.

All bolts put in order of where they fit.
All went back together nicely with no issues , cleaned up the inside of the door before refitting the door skin.

All works correctly and the door handle feels alot better to use. Probably because the cable was rest correctly according to the guide.

Whilst I had the door skin off it was easier to treat some rust on the sill right under the front corner of the door, the paint looked like it had worn away from the door catching it but there was plenty of clearance .

My go to  products bilt hamber de oxit gel and por 15 paint.
