Got a MK5 GTI. Firstly, my block 93 was at -7. Then I replaced the chain and chain tensioner with oil contorl rings and the VVT solenoid. A few months later, my block 93 was at -6. Then I replaced only my VVT phaser and everything was good except I had a knocking noise on idle when the car is hot but not every time and the noise usually would usually go away with a slight rev around 1500 rpm. My block 93 value was -2 and now a month later it is -4 which is a limit for chain stretch. I have to point out that I used INA chain, tensioner, phaser and it is important to note that i replaced my belt, belt tensioner, water pump and rollers too. Does anyone have a clue of what’s causing this? Could that be a chain stretch followed with snapped oil rings?
