Odd brake wear pattern advice needed....

(1/2) > >>

Hi All, After a bit of advice, i have a funny wear pattern which has appeared on my front left near side disk.  Wanting to know if I should give it some attention or not?

Car doesnt feel odd under braking, and I have no warning lights or error codes, all your time comments and help will be greatly appreciated.   :notworthy:

I thought this could initially have been a inconsistency in either the pad or disk that would wear away, but after a couple of hundred miles it hasnt changed.

So what do we reckon........

And before any one says I know I need to replace the nasty looking nut covers!!!!  :ashamed:

Black looks like pad material, as if it isn't seated quite square and it is ever so gently rubbing.

john_o:
hard to tell from the pics, but it looks 'blued' from overheating from a high spot.
Def worth having the lot off for a check and maybe some cleanup with sandpaper  :happy2:

mk2mexico:
Take off the break pads and place a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface it must be totally flat and smoothe.
with the pad in your hand move the pad with braking material facing down on to the sand paper in a figure of 8 motion this should square things up and remove all the high spots  on the pad.
do not go mad only take off a light skim until the surface looks clead and even
replace in to caliper and try again. put some copper grease on the moving parts and area
good luck  :happy2:

Cheers John o and mk2mexico, will try and make time to do this on the weekend, not taken the pads out on a car before will I need any specific tools for winding the pistons back or will replacing the same pad negate this requirement (I do have the haynes manual for the mk5) so hopefully this will have a step by step in it!

thanks again  :drinking:
