Just tried the all-day long stuff, found it rather similar to the columbian fairtrade I mentioned so that probably wont be up your street either, I drink mine either black or with very little milk and like the strong taste so I might not be the best to recommend a good coffee.
All the Sainsburys ones have ratings on them so maybe next time go for a lighter one.

I only like Italian style, so illy and Lavazza would be your mainstream ones. Taylors of Harrogate do many good ones too. I like bitter and chocolatey, as opposed to sweet and fruity.
Maybe get some samples of different types and see what you like, they're as varied as wine.
Fairtradiniess though, I don't know, maybe they do some? I'm not that arsed to be honest. Although I do go as far as to buy pretty much everything I need in my village, we have a great butchers/bakers/greengrocers/hardware shop/deli etc. with most of the food coming from the local farms/producers. But then I have weird things like not buying anything from Israel. I guess we all have our causes.
