I'd probably agree with you on all counts, however just because Illy do not use Fair Trade certified coffee does not mean they don't conform to the Fair Trade ideologies. They do for instance claim to pay 30% more for their coffee than the US average, far more than the Fair Trade price.

It's slightly foolish to presume that just because a product is not Fair Trade the producers are being ripped off. It's not always the case.

i agree dude, the products in my cupboards all have various ethos's attached

on of my more interesting facts regarding fair trade can also be applied to cornish potatoes

the price is forced right down for the local farmers, the madness being the transportation costs. ie potato grown, harvested, transported out of cornwall for packaging, send to a distribution center, transported back to cornwall to fill a local supermarket shelf. the fact that potato may have been grown in the field opposite is hilarious!

i've bought all of my veg and fruit direct from the farmers for this reason for a long time, they have a good ethos here that they share their produce with each other down here so that they can all operate farm shops with equal stock regardless on what they grow, cut out all the middlemess and the money goes straight to the farmers

I find most Italian coffees acceptable.  Colombian just too harsh for me.

The Nespresso system is awesome.  You'll probably think the machines are expensive but John Lewis often have good deals on.  The capsules will normally work out at about 27p per cup.

Also currently £40 cashback from Nespresso.

Fair Trade, dunno to be honest but I don't let things like that rule my life.

Edit - Just realised you already bought the Percolator  :signLOL:
