'Old' Porsches...
« on: June 19, 2010, 11:53:30 am »
I know it's old , but I saw the £1500 Porsche challenge Top Gear episode earlier this morning and got me thinking, were there any models with a straight 6 engines that you can pickup for a few grand today?

I think the ones Clarkson, Hammond and May had were a 924, 944 and 928. I think the first two were 2.5litre inline 4's and the 928 being a V8 (may be wrong), so I wondered which models did a straight 6, presuming Porsche have always offered a 6cyl at some point in their history?

Admidattedly they were all sh*t for realibility and I think if you buy and old Porsche, it'll be a money pit on 9/10 occasions but it's nice to think maybe one day...  :happy2:

Cheers.
Pete

Aren't all the 6 cylinder ones horizontally opposed boxed engines rather than a straight 6? I think all the 911 range use them don't they?

Hahaha I saw that. Awesome review of the GTI.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Flat sixes you mean.

There's a few 911s about. For about £10k you can get a reasonably nice mid-80s 911 930. For a little bit more - maybe £15k or so - you can get a a much nicer 964. I'd rather get a 964 myself. 993s and newer still tend to be a bit pricey. For my money, it'd be a toss up between a 964 and a 993.
