VW T40057 Oil Drainage Tool - UK Part No.?
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:27:55 am »
Looking to purchase the VW T40057 tool to aid in releasing oil from the oil filter housing during oil changes.

I've got a PDF with an AUS VW Part no. - Do we have a UK Part no. for this please?
It's one of these for a visual reference  :happy2:

Thanks
Pete

That IS the part number.  Just make sure your stealer uses the 'tools' section of their parts ordering system.

Oh, BTW, you know that isn't for draining the oil from the sump?

Thanks Sean. Prompt and accurate as ever  :happy2:

Indeed, it was in a rush pre-leaving for my VW DLR. I meant the filter assistant pipe

BTW guys, I walked away from that as I was quoted £102 inc vat by the guy on parts  :scared:
Looks like a second hand one then...

WHAT - rip-off barstewards.  :fighting:

I'm sure mine was only about £35.  Try a Skoda dealer, or try TPS.

^^ Yeah, no kidding. I was surprised too.
Even £35 is a lot for a small pipe even with VW Tax.

I'll give ebay and the aforementioned a go. Cheers  :drinking:

Guys what are you messing about at.  :wink:Just use a screwdriver to push it up and hook it over then when drained push it back. I have done 10 changes this way on my car with no problems. :happy2:

You know that isn't genuine?  Whilst it may do the job - I'd be a tad cautious.  The bit which screws into the bottom of the filter bowl is just plastic, whereas the genuine is brass.  And the hose is clear pvc, whereas the genuine is like a silicone rubber.  So it may melt if you try to use it whilst the oil is hot!

Yes, but it's rather messy that way!  The idea of the tool is that it keeps oil away from the after-run coolant pump and other gubbins which won't appreciate being showered in hot oil!

Yeah, I know it is'nt the same as the genuine one, but for me as a DIY mechanic and not using it day in day out, I feel it maybe of benefit to me without paying a fortune for a genuine one. However, if a genuine one pop's up at the correct price (please, anybody point me in the right direction) then I too would rather have the real macoy.  :happy2:

Fairy nuff.  I understand your point on the DIY issue. :happy2:  It's no difference between some peeps being happy with shyte Laser tools (speaking from painful experience from a number of their products), wheras others will have nothing but Snap-On in their tool boxes (and most of their stuff is grossly over-rated!).

Anyway, reading further on www.MobilFaction.com/T40057.html, they state the plastic resin they use to cast the black bit with is heat resistant - but I'm still a tad concerned about the four plastic 'tags' which release the drain valve on the bottom of the filter housing www.MobilFaction.com/photos.html - these may be prone to snapping off. :sad1:

Maybe you can be the fourm 'road tester'?
