S3/R32 Brake Upgrade
« on: January 10, 2011, 08:07:57 am »
Can anyone tell me how easy it is to do an S3/R32 front and rear brake upgrade on a GTi please. Are the rears as simple as bolting new discs ,calipers and pads and bending/manipulating the existing  dirt/dust shields away from the disc for clearance? I read somewhere you need to use the brake pipes from the R32/S3...ive looked on ETKA and they list a L/H and R/H pipe (as seperate part numbers) they then list another part number for a pipe of which two are required! I am unsure of what this pipe is and if i actually need it. Can someone please tell me exactly what i will need (and part numbers if possible?) Thanks in advance

I know for certain that the Fronts are a straight swap as i have done it. You just need new brake hoses from and S3/R32 as they are slightly longer than GTi ones. That's assuming you get calipers, Carriers, Dust Shield, Pads, Discs.

As for the rears im 99% certain that it is the same again a straight swap but you need brake hoses.

The rears are a direct bolt one.

Same lines, same pads, same hand-brake fixtures etc.  Just the calipers and discs are different.

the Std GTI rear dust shields are used too, just tweak slightly to provide clearance.

Yeah as mentioned above they are quite a significant upgrade on the standard GTI setup, well worth doing!

2010 Golf R20 Brake kit!

Nope older R32 brakes with Golf R retainers. The only difference is the caliper colour. Golf R are black and R32's are blue  :happy2:

You can get away with just the fronts but they can be a little snatchy at low speed. If you add the rears they come with vented discs and a slightly bigger piston in the caliper.

Fronts ftw.
Fronts and rears ftmfw.

regarding the brake pipe, you need it on both front calipers as they are needed to link the brake hoses to the calipers. You can reuse the brake lines on the rear as i did without any trouble  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)
