Oh dear, I don't particularly want to join Yahoo - Bad experiences in the past. Do they send you uninvited emails etc?

No... the only emails I receive from flickr having had to join yahoo... are flickr emails. You can of course set it up that you don't receive any notification emails! :happy2:

....I just read the Yahoo privacy policy and it's just like Facebook, so thanks but no thanks.

What did it say that you dont like?

....All the small print about collecting data on your web page surfing habits etc etc and tailoring marketing etc to you accordingly. How old you are, where you live. Didn't see any option to refuse "related" emails as you suggested either.
Sorry, I'd otherwise very much like to join you, but I have a particular dislike of the Yahoo/Facebook approach.

You setup the email notifications to suit you in "Your account" when you sign up.
-------------------------------------------------------------
When should we send you email?
Would you like to receive emails when invitations and notifications are sent to you in Flickr? (For example, when someone invites you to a group.)
Yes
No
Would you like to receive emails when someone makes you their contact?
Yes
No
Would you like to receive email when people send you personal messages in Flickr?
Yes
Yes, but only if they are a contact of mine
No, not at all
------------------------------------
I only receive emails that pertain to flickr, such as comments on pictures, new pictures from my contacts etc etc.... you can opt. out of all of these if you choose. The only emails i receive apart from these, are the ones asking me to renew my account.
Theres is zero marketing on flickr as far as i can tell, but thats not to say they dont know my neck size and inside leg measurements.
You can also stop your images being crawled by google and other search engines too if you wish. You can also completely block your photostream to the world except your contacts that you add.
It seems fairly sound to me... FB on the other hand... i'd agree, its a marketing and data hoarding exercise!

....I guess those options only present themselves after you have joined. I got as far as the bit which stated that you agreed with being sent 'related' stuff after the security code window (capcha?).
What's the betting that if I go back and join I'll be met with my name and email already being allocated - Yes! To me! Sorry but what happens in a Flickr group that doesn't happen already here?
