MK5golfGTI.co.uk FLICKR GROUP
cmdrfire:
Flickr allows much larger images to be posted, as well as sets, collections, and "online galleries" etc to be organised. The interface is much friendlier for viewing photos than a forum/imageshack/etc and allows metadata to be viewed (camera used and settings, location of photograph, etc).
I've been a pro member for almost 4 or 5 years now - since before they were bought by Yahoo. There's no advertising, as Flickr is funded by its paying members. It's probably one of my most highly-valued web subscriptions.
I've certainly never recieved any spam or nonsense because of my Flickr account, the only time I recieve an email is when my subscription is due and when someone sends me a PM.
Flickr photos/sets/groups also allow a very important thing to be added (or included), and that is context. A themed set provides for considerably more context than just a series of forum posts.
The breadth of work available is superb too, especially in "The Commons", where publically-available historical collections are available - you can spend hours trawling around there (and I have!).
Just some thoughts.

I got the old flickr app when it came out and joined through there so I only have a flickr username and password not a full yahoo account. Worth a shot?
