hello can anyone help please,

i have a RNS510 1t0 035 680 B, a few weeks ago it started shutting down and starting back up randomly, when it is shut down you can still hear noise coming from inside.

when it started happening more frequent i deleted the firmware and tried reinstalling a few different firmware versions, but due to it shutting down so much during the install it wouldn't go past at most 65%

after doing this so many times it now will not go past the welcome to volkswagon screen and it still shuts down!

can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? my reading of forums leaves me to believe it is the mainboard. does anyone know of anywhere i can get it repaired to?

your help very much appreciated, many thanks

There is a later 398X firmware but as it only works on B units and higher i haven't listed it.
I thought it needed a HU higher than C?

No it's only A that it won't work with. There are a few people with B Units running it fine but as with any firmware there is a risk. There is also a risk with the 398x as it is a Beta. But i'm running it fine although my unit is the equivalent of a D

Should be fine to use the 3810 firmware. I used the modified version for A, B and C units for my B unit. Quicker start up and different loading screen. Maps have slightly different colours for routes and icons but I found the interface to be more laggy than previous when touching it.

It will wipe maps so you need to make sure you have the updated maps disc.

You need VCDS to switch the colour themes but otherwise the menu colours are the same. As I said, it's the map route colours that are slightly different.

Open up VCDS, go into the Navigation controller. Click on the Long Coding Helper button. Move through the bytes until you get to byte 7. You can select between Highline, Premium and Sportsline. Make a change and save it. Then reboot the RNS using the <, >, and i buttons.

I changed mine to Premium because I preferred the more subtle look.
