Fitting a VW 9W7 Bluetooth Kit
Norbreck21a:
Guys,
Looking for a little advise please. I've just purchased a complete bluetooth kit (the 9W7) in advanced for the wife's new Polo 6R which we should get in the next month or so. Unfortunately, it seems that only our German friends get the option of specifying bluetooth with the new Polo, everyone esle has to do without.
The kit I've purchased is a complete unit. It's the new HFP bluetooth module 7P6 035 730 C, as well as W original underseat foam - 3C0 919 738, VW-original Microphone - 3B0 035 711 B and Plug and Play Wiring specific to avoid having to cut wires! + bridge for voice recognition on RNS 510 + AD2P using just one microphone. (sales blurp from advert)
Now, having never fitted a VW blueooth kit before, I'm assuming the install will be almost identical to if I were installing in a Golf ?
One of the questions I've been thinking about, is the bluetooth unit (sat in it's foam holder), I guess will just be sat under the drivers seat by velcro but where do you normally route the harness ? I know that the mic will have to travel up the drivers side A pillar therefore that part at least I assume needs to run under the driver door sill moulding, behind the kick well panel (where the bonnet release is) and up the A pillar and across to the interior light assembly. But what about the main wiring loom, does that follow the same path ? Say up to the fuse box in the side panel, then route across above the pedals to the headunit, or do you route this harness from it's position under the drivers seat to the centre console then up under the console to the head unit ?
Are there generally positions under the seats to allow the cables to pass under the carpet ? I knwo we are talking about a new Polo and not a Golf but I have to assume they are very similar ?
With regards to coding, again I guess it's a case of ticking [44] Telephone in the CAN gateway, but would there be any other coded to be done to get it to work with the Polo's RCD510 head unit and to be able to use the phone and microphone buttons on the MFSW ?
Thanks in advace for any advise, just want to be prepared so that when it arrives, I can install in one go without any surprises.
Cheers
Andrew

Morning Andy, Following your assumption that its the same as the Golf then cabling runs up the outside under the door sill etc as you have assumed for your microphone run, there is in the golf a little plastic flap which allows you to access through the carpet to a cable well that runs under the seat fixing to the door sill, its a tight squeeze but worth the effort in the long run.
Your best bet is to read Stu install guide off his Skoda VRS site its what I used and its truly a great write up and resource! :happy2:

As above I would use the door sill area, up past the bonnet pull and behind the dash clocks for the main loom and then on up the A pillar for the mirophone.
Not sure on Coding, I've never looked at a new Polo but I guess if it has a gateway with long coding then yes enable 77 Telephone. There may be something in the HU with regard to telephone to change but you'll be best to have a look when you get it.

Hi Andrew,
As these guys have said running up the drivers sill is the 'proper' way to do it.
I on the other hand did it 'my' way! I removed the ashtray and fitted my interface under there, it just fits.
Much easier and quicker than running up the sill as you can drop the cable down when you remove the stereo and as I did'nt have the foam holder and bracket it saved me buying it :happy2:
Also it will be much easier to remove when I come to sell. Now obviously that was in my Golf so I'm not sure if there is room in the same place in the Polo?
Also you already have the extra bits and I'm sure you won't be worried about ease of removal if you sell as you have only just bought it!
