sealing the standard intake

right guys i know this is abit ghetto. The open mouth at the lower back of the standard intake, can i seal this? i am saving for a new aftermarket one, the is just for the short term  :happy2:

You could get some gaffa tape and block it up that way, I thought about doing this yesterday :)

But is it wise? - I read somewhere that it's important to draw in more air by a configuration which allows the air to 'somersault' (not their words but if you can understand the principle). It's to do with aerodynamics in that area of the Mk5 bonnet/upper grills. Sorry to be vague but I can't bookmark absolutely every page I visit just in case there's a question.

I know what you mean (its like venturis in carbs to speed up the air) but the way its designed means the air goes straight through into the engine bay rather than into the air intake.

Less air=less fuel, so its probably something to keep the emissions down.  When I get a chance for a long drive, I will gaffa tape it up and see if it makes a difference.
