But is it wise? - I read somewhere that it's important to draw in more air by a configuration which allows the air to 'somersault' (not their words but if you can understand the principle). It's to do with aerodynamics in that area of the Mk5 bonnet/upper grills. Sorry to be vague but I can't bookmark absolutely every page I visit just in case there's a question.

Interesting theory but wouldn't that would mean that your carbonio would also stop that 'somersault' ?

jonnyc:
Im a bit lost here.. What are you wanting to do?

If you want a ghetto intake then remove the panel filter material, and re install the plastic / rubber seal surround.. then just fit a filter to the intake duct of the engine cover..

billyboy:
Ive done this, gaffa taped up, also i got a hacksaw blade (junior) hand held and cut out the flap piece in there, removed the top lid/cover, then drilled as many holes as i could in the base so it draws air from all over, (bit like drilling the air box on MK2s)
probly makes no differance what so ever, but its nice to know am giving it a fighting chance of getting air, jonnyc's idea is my next move i think, with open fog grilles and the filter down in the back of the bumper area.

broke.:
cheers guys. gunna have a go at this tomorrow n see if it makes a difference. the carbonio one is what i'm wanting next, just saving extra cash for it at the moment.

....IIRC, it was more to do with the small upper grills just in front of the Carbonio.
