That does sound useful - will ring the one closest to me to see if they do the same service.

if it is running rich or lean - what is the fix? is that something i would take the car to VW for?

I would agree with TC , does seem very low duncan. Depends at what point you fill up (empty on guage?)
Remember theres accumulated average MPG so unless you specifically reset the average at fill up , the mpg average will be across all fill ups since you last reset.....

At the very least the average mpg (if reset at the last fillup) , should tally (roughly) with the tank size.
So for me

last tank 370 miles travelled at average 30 mpg. I filled up on empty (but not reserve)

370/30 = 12.33 gallons
12.33 x 4.54 = 56 litres which is roughly the expected tank size  :happy2:

in town driving , the GTI does not do well tbh for mpg. A good rr session will put your mind at rest  :innocent:

Thanks John

100 miles for half a tank does seem like a bit of a joke to me but that has been 100% town driving and very short journeys.

my average mpg seems to reset itself every time i start a new journey, tonights journey which was probably only about 7 miles was an average of about 17mpg....

would a rolling road session show up straight away if my car was running lean?

john_o:
The first avg is auto reset during the current journey time only (ign on/off) (it has a 1 on the display)
second press gets you the accum average (a 2 is displayed)
I'd get the manual out  :happy2:

heres an example from my blog (note the small 2 indicates its an accumulated average since I last manually reset)

remember simple stuff like tyre pressures, in car items on (heated seats/ICE etc), fuel type used could effect your MPG
I assume you arent running non OE tyre sizes that may through out the speedo?

Good Luck and let us know how you get on  :happy2:

have cycled through the display and i seem to only get the mpg 1 up, will double check.  as for tyre pressures and tyres, running standard monza II's with conti 3's alround, pressure is 32psi allround

will check the average MPG 2 and see what it says - how often does that reset?
